Keeping a Roof over Our Heads

Bricks and mortar arent the only things keeping a roof over our heads Wall Ties are essential to the stability of our homes and other masonry buildings. They are built into the walls during construction, tying the slender internal and external leaves together to give the masonry its strength.

Ties are designed to provide a good mortar bond at each end and to shed water, preventing moisture passing to the inner skin of the building. Stainless steel wall ties, usually made from grade 304 (1.4301), are chosen to withstand corrosion from rain and chemical attack from the mortar.

Carbon steel was found to corrode in this application and would expand in size causing brickwork to crack, which in extreme cases has led to walls collapsing. Stainless steel is now the material of choice and will last the life-time of our buildings.
