An early example of stainless steel in architecture can be seen in the Savoy, Britains first luxury hotel in London opening its doors on the 6th of August 1889. Stainless steel was used for its art deco sign in the 1930s that still famously hangs above the Savoy Court today.

The Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff opened in 2004 and is a more modern example of how this material can be used. The dome is clad in 10,000 square metres of bronze-coloured stainless steel type 316 (1.4401) as thin as 0.8mm. Two iconic and unique buildings from different eras demonstrate the aesthetic potential of stainless steel.
